Hi all! This is just a quick post about a funny NY moment... I work on Water Street, two blocks north of the S.I. Ferry, and it is one of the windiest streets in NY. So picture this, I am waiting at the light leaning back against the wind, which is pushing so hard if it were to suddenly stop blowing I would be laying down on my back in the street. I see out of the corner of my a figure rush forward and hear an apologetic "oh excuse me..the wind!!!" This little lady was losing the battle with the Wind! I hold out my arm and yell over the wind...hurry catch on, catch on! She hooks into my left arm and this tall young guy hooks into my right arm...we run across the street into the shelter of the buildings, unhook arms and call good night to each other. All I can say is only in NY! I love NY! Hugs! Marie

Nah!!! Off the loom Babeeeee! Here is my first piece! yippeee! It is way too long to use as a scarf so it will be used as a table runner. We have to name our piece for the class show at Habu. I am naming mine Teacher's Pet...cause I am such a brown-noser! Speaking of brown-nosing..here is my special little helper... Yep...Lola is great with fringes! She is totally fascinated. I am looking forward to starting my next piece. I love the way the colors mix with each other. A simple twist changes the look of the yarn...Love it! I can not wait to see what my classmates have made...The show isn't until Dec. I have time to finish the fringe. I am braiding and knotting it at different lengths. That should look pretty funky. All, The last rose in my garden opened up. It is so pretty. My last weaving class is Wednesday!! That went by so fast...What will I do on Wednesday. Well my project comes off the loom last class. Our class show is in December. It be great fun to see everyone's finished project. I love seeing the differences between the different projects. The instructor, Linda, was really excellent! She has so much knowledge. Today I will be sorting out Christmas pressies...I need to organize myself. So this post will be short... I did find some funky fabric to make my sister-in-law some pillows. There aren't many good fabric stores where I live. Blah. I have to go into the city to get anything nice. All, Here is my loomy with warp ends in place! This is a time consuming, sore back making, process. That we went through last Wednesday. Thank you Linda and Toni for your patience! We have to measure out 4 yards + an extra foot on our warping board and wind 100 ends for our first project. Talk about repetitive motion babeeeee! After that, ensuring the cross is protective at all times! We thread the loom...only the slots! After that we clean tension, roll, until we get to the end. At the end our first HORRIFYING moment! we cut the ends. We use slip knots to hold in and we thread the holes. Once the holes are threaded we tie weavers knots - one last tension!! We weave our header...and AWAY we go! Here is loomy in the sun...I have no planned patter for this project. I am (in the words of Vincent) letting it flow! LOL! I love how the paper yarn looks! The cotton is holding up very well. I've got 61 inches done so far. I have to do 78. Well Enjoy your day! It looks very breezy out there...

It was coooold here in NY! Whatever happened to warm October days? The colors are beautiful. The light is different this time of year. Everything is bathed in golden warm tones. Old buildings that I walk by every day look different more special. I've got to bring my camera in tomorrow! If it is going to be another gorgeous day I have to get some pictures. We are all ok. My daughter was in a motor bike accident, but she is ok. Nice cut on her knee, road rash, no broken bones. Thank goodness. I thought my heart was going to leap out of my mouth when she called. Words I never want to hear again. My son in Boston should be getting his cast off this week. He broke his wrist practicing martial arts. He heals very quickly so he should be back to cheffing soon. The kid can cook!! yum yum! So kids are healing. Hubby and I are well. We are looking forward to quiet time. (YEA RIGHT!) I, as usual, am looking forward to my weaving class on Wednesday. I start my last project. I am taking picture...

All, I thought I'd post a picture of my Great-Grandma. I love pictures! My mom and aunts have a few pictures of the women in my family. We all have the same look. Amazing! I've spent a busy weekend making Christmas Pressies! Oh what fun!! I can't show anything, but I can say the colors are GORGEOUS Dahlings! I get the warp on the loom on Wednesday for my Weaving project. I can't wait! I will keep the design nice and simple. I am looking forward to going to The Yarn Tree for the dyeing workshop. What fun! Michaels is having a great sale on yarn. I got some more baby blanket yarn. There are a lot of babies due! It's an epidemic!!! I am also working on a felt project that I saw on the Bella Dia website. I don't think it will turn out as nice as her project did...it will take some practice. I will make some of those for the nieces for Christmas. Enjoy your week! Take care of yourselves. Marie

I am really enjoying the weaving class. The group is made up of a lot of very creative people. The instructor, Linda, is great!! I am so happy I signed up for the class. Here is a picture of my practice piece. On Wednesday this piece will be taken off the loom and we'll start the warp for our first real project. This is the loom on the stand. I like this loom it folds up very easily and fits nicely into the carrying case. It is kind of heavy, maybe not heavy awkward to carry on the train I am using very strong colors for my first project. So, so out of character for me. I normally like soft muted colors! This is a good shot of the project yarns. The yarn on the cones is for the warp. It is Cotton Gima. The ameyst and gold colors yarns are linen paper. They start off real crackly like, but soften with use. Sharp eyes will recognize the balls of yarn from the trip to the Union Square farmers market. I didn't know what to make with this yarn..I think I may use this in the pr...

Happy Day! It's gorgeous out! Look at that blue sky. This was taken downtown. I started my weaving class this week. It was a smart idea to take a class. I don't think I could have figured out how to weave from a book. I like that the class is a small size. The instructor and her assistant are able to give us all a lot of hands on help. Plus (and this is a very dangerous plus) it is held in Habu Textiles...umhmmmm...lots of temptation! So Project Runway was really good. I couldn't believe they brought back Angela and Vincent. That collar Angela designed for the bolero made the model look like she was being picked up by the collar!! Vincent's dress was just terrible. What a waste of a 2nd chance. Laura dress was nice I liked it. I like that lace over fabric look. This week before my weaving class am going to stop by Mood. I want to make a dress for the little girls and maybe one for me! All, My sister, the Artiste, and I had a great time visiting with our nieces and nephews. A great time was had by all! The local yarn shop was closed, curses!! I did stand with my little nose pressed up against the glass. There is a real nice candy store in town and I had fun seeing the kids enjoy there giant lollipops! So adorable! I did make up for it today. I went to Purl and got some lovely manos, Rowan summer tweed (on sale), a crochet magazine, a weavette to weave the bits of yarn into fabric and a lovely shawl pin made of glass. The shawl pin is really pretty. I can't wait to use it. Then I walked around the city and took pictures. Here is a lovely parting shot. Trinity church! Finally I have my own space a little unwanted corner of the house that no one else wants. I never imagined that a dingy corner in the basement would give me so much joy. Strange. I've got all my books and magazines in easy reach on a couple of broken down Ikea shelves that were going in the trash. I found a nice inexpensive table for my sewing machine. Some wire cubes from Target for my yarn and there you have it Heaven on Earth. My Space. Ok I found a centipede in the corner...yuck! Dust bunnies the size of Lola Dog, but the back door opens to my other favorite space...the back garden. This is now my place to escape. The job is hectic and demanding. The family can be interesting to deal with...I can escape. Ok...am actually doing the happy dance...yipeeee...I'll put a cd player down there and I am set! I can set up my Loom! I got into the weaving class. That starts in three weeks...oh boy oh boy oh boy! Funny what can make a person happy. Marie

Yep! I got in a toy I wasn't expecting today! Yippee...I was so happy to see a big brown box on the kitchen table. I love Mr. Postman he is the best! Anyhoooo...the new addition to the family is a lovely Brother sewing machine. It isn't super fancy, it is just right for me! I love to make little girl clothes and now that I have nieces and great nieces in the house I can sew away! While I was typing away something caught my attention out of the corner of my eye. It was a butterfly in the bush by the dining room window! Usually all I see are big old crows or maybe a pigeon or two. I saw my mom and sister this weekend and I was gifted with a matrilinial family tree picture montage thingeee. My mom found pictures going back several generations. My sister cleaned them up digitally and used a background of Spain. It is so cool to see the family features carried through the generations.

It's been a busy week and an even busier weekend. We went walking through the Union Square market and found some delish beets and some even nicer yarn. I have a one track mind... aren't those colors gorgeous! I bought some on the sunflower color. Am currently working on a shawl and yes I have pictures. It is taking a long time to crochet this one. I think it is going to turn out very nicely indeed. My DH is currently in the basement getting a corner fixed up for my hobbies! YIPPEEEE....I knew if I kept leaving my junk around it would tick him off.hahhahahhaha. Well here is a parting picture of Broadway and Houston (pronounced Houseton not like the city in Texas!) My great nephew finally arrived!!! WAHOOOOOO! Little Cannoli. awwww so sweet. Work is good...am busy as ever. Have started crocheting a shawl for myself. Using my own pattern. I am using yarn I ordered from handpainted yarns. So pretty. The color is alpine. it looks like my faded jeans. Full of dark blues - whites. Very nice. I will post a picture soon. The secret object in my last post was a LOOM! A lovely Kromsky rigid heddle loom. So pretty..just waiting for someone to string her up...hmmm imagine the disappointment of people when they type that phrase into a search and come across Little Cannoli!!! Oh YEA babeee...hopefully I get a spot in Habu Textiles weaving class...keep your fingers crossed for me. I attempted to register too late! The last spot had just been sold..RATS. All, Yep, yet another baby blanket!! This one is pretty cool. I came up with this one myself. I only have to do a few more rows of the edge and it will be done. here is a close up of the rows... All, Nothing to report really...it has been busy at work, but we don't talk about work here. I am on vacation this week, so I am working on a new idea for a baby blanket. I may get it done if Lola Bird gets off my lap and hands..argh...she must be the center of attention. My niece is due any day now...poppin' fresh she is!!! This is Lola-bird with her best..Mommy don't type please play with me!! I refinished an end table that my darling daughter spilled nail polish remover on..argh. It looks pretty cool. We did go into NY to see a Flamenco show. It was pretty durn good. It makes me homesick it does!! Here is Ms. Ris with the guitarist... I think she enjoyed the show! Yep finished the fluffy, fuzzy totally swingy scarfy thing! Wahoooo...as predicted a certain Ris lifted it off the hook before I could run around in circles doing the "I FINISHED" dance...hmpf. Awwww there is the Ris with her friend. The lovely swingy thing draped around and ready to rock. Does anyone want to see a close-up ok...here is fuzzy swingy thing lounging on a table Now for the details...The fuzzy yarn is Moda Dea Vixen color is Fushia. The light pink is Peter Pan yarn in well Pink! So what is next what is next...a shawl? Well to end the night with a NYC picture... Introducing Pointy Sisters!!! I know it is about time. I just needed a little inspiration. A co-worker was having trouble with her baby blanket and that just started me off. It is a pretty easy pattern, and should look great once it is done. My daughter has claimed it! She said she will wear it around her waist. A falcon family has a nest on the building where I work. It is amazing how quickly the chicks grow. Less than a week ago they were yellow downy critters that would fall asleep right after eating. Now they are stretching their wings. They do not go near the edge of the building ledge. Betcha didn't know there are falcons living in NY City. The cool part is you can see them flying around from certain client rooms. What a great city this is! Today was the kick off of the River to River festivals. Everyday there is something going on in the city. I've tons of yarn people...tons of ideas, but no idea where to begin! I am suffering from Fiber Block...ewww that sounds really horrible!! hahaha! Every once in a while I can't decide what to start. I am looking around blog world for inspiration. So many talented bloggers out there. How do you all do it? Work, family and still you create. I think it is work related stress...that's all I am saying about that. I have to get myself on track there are babies coming and birthdays...xmas!! I've got to get a move on. well at least the garden is enjoying my extra weeding and tending. Maybe this blockage is a good thing. Here is a picture of Princess S at her 1st Birthday. The lovely auntie holding her is my sister the Artist. The Artist and I have a lot in common. We both love museums, traveling, and exploring the city. We are peas in the pod. My other sisters are terrific as is my brother, Dad to Princess S. We are a pretty tight group. My mom taught me how to crochet when I was a tiny thing...I think she taught me so I would stay out of her hair for a while...poor mom! Mom was a master at creating Halloween costumes out of ordinary things. No plastic masks for us. I remember being a gypsy, a country singer, a 50s style girl and my favorite a flamenco dancer. In the summer we spent a lot of time in the library and the zoo. We spent so much time at the Bklyn. Botanical Gardens we knew the security guards by name. The Brooklyn Museum was our home away from home. So many great memories. With that Happy Mother's day to all of you out there. Spend time with your children and give them...
